Project timelines can vary greatly depending on the scale and complexity of the garden design. The design phase, which involves the consultation, creating the garden design, and any revisions, typically takes a few weeks for small to medium gardens. 

For larger or more complex projects, such as with custom features, extensive planting plans, or multiple areas, it could take a couple of months to finalise the plan and move forward with the installation.

In the UK, most garden design projects do not require planning permission but there are some exceptions. For example, if your project involves major changes such as constructing large retaining walls, building an outbuilding or garden room above a certain size, or significant ground level alterations, then permission may be required ahead of time.

This is because at this time the soil is still warm but the moisture levels are higher as the seasons transition, making it easier for new plants to establish their roots so they will survive the winter frost or summer heat.
