Project Overview: Landscaping Woking
This project took place in Woking, Surrey, and was originally posed to our team as a straightforward refurbishment. However, when we arrived at the scene it was clear this project was going to be as straightforward as we imagined, as the lower end of the garden was severely flooded.
As the main focus of this refurbishment was the turf, this flooding caused some issues for our team and required us to reconsider the entire project to ensure we could deliver the results our clients desired.
Flooding And Its Causes
To our surprise upon arrival, the garden we were supposed to refurbish was dealing with a severe flood – which would be revealed to be more major than we had initially expected following an inspection. When our team arrived, the bottom of the garden was already ankle-deep in water.
Following the investigation that followed, we found that there was a much higher scale of flooding which was caused by two Victorian sewer pipes running through the garden. These pipes were incredibly old and over time, the rubber seals that joined them had deteriorated.
This caused considerable water leakage and the subsequent flooding we found ourselves dealing with during this landscaping Woking project.
Resolution and Rehabilitation
Although this was an unexpected issue for our team, we did not let the flooding interfere with our quality of work. We knew that before anything else could take shape, we needed to resolve this flood.
We employed three submersible pumps to replace the malfunctioning, ancient pipes which stopped the continuous flow of water. We had to wait until the garden had dried up enough for us to move on to our original landscaping project, but with the new pumps, this took no time at all.
Garden Levelling and Turf Installation
Once the garden had dried sufficiently, we could move on to work on the original landscaping Woking project we had lined up. For this, we first needed to amend the garden’s slope so we had a smooth, flat surface to work with.
This required 60 tonnes of soil, which not only elevated the garden so it could be improved but also brought the lawn up to the same level as the newly built patio. With this level and even surface, we then proceeded with the relaying of the turf to give the space a fresh, revitalised look.
Creating Functional Spaces
While relaying the turf was the main focus of this task, we handled everything we the utmost precision to ensure that no detail went unnoticed. This is why, following the turf installation, we also added metal edging to the garden borders.
We also cleared out the assorted plants and trees that remained in the garden, to make the space ready for replanting in the spring.
The final touch to this landscaping Woking project was the installation of the concrete shed base, ready for a new installation when our clients found the perfect fit.
Conclusion
Despite the initial challenges that surfaced during this landscaping Woking project, the team at Beautiful Spaces persevered to successfully accomplish the task.
Thanks to our dedicated team, we were able to transform this flooded garden into a dry, levelled, and beautiful green space that is now ready for a new season of growth.
